How rent-a-car shops double book, and how a calendar stops it

Double bookings do not come from carelessness. They come from a booking taken on the phone at 10 at night, confirmed with "I'll see", and never written in the register because the register is at the shop. The next morning a second family books the same Corolla for the same dates, in writing, and both turn up with luggage.

The three usual causes

• The register lives in one place and the phone calls happen everywhere.
• Extensions. A renter keeps the car two more days, the shop agrees, and the car's next booking was already promised.
• Two staff members each hold part of the picture and nobody holds all of it.

What a calendar does differently

One row per car, one block per booking, visible on every phone in the shop. In Amanat the calendar will not accept two bookings that overlap.
